Jeremy Perks from Newbury, Berkshire
Trail completed July 2015

I had been contemplating tackling the nearby Centurion Walk (some unfinished business) when the Trail caught my attention, for two reasons. Firstly, I had never been on the Howgills, despite passing them on many trips to the Lake District and, secondly, the prospect of renewing acquaintence with theYorkshire 3 Peaks after many years was a bit like a magnet.

I'm glad I decided to give it a go and sincere thanks are due to David & Heather Pitt for devising such a varied and interesting walk. As a 55 year old walker, I really enjoyed the challenge although a few more waymarkers on some of the lesser used paths would have been useful.

The views from The Calf lived up to expectations although this contrasted with a blustery and obscured Calf Top on the next day but that's the English weather for you! You will see from my itinerary that I adapted parts of the Trail so I hope the purists won't be too upset - I liken it a bit to AW's Coast-to-Coast Walk which was never originally intended as a 'definitive route'.

Day 1 - Kirkby Stephen to Newbiggin on Lune 11 miles
Day 2 - Newbiggin to Sedbergh (avoiding descent past Cautley Spout) 15miles
Day 3 - Sedbergh to Ingleton 21 miles
Day 4 - Ingleton to Ribblehead (all of the Waterfall Trail plus Bruntscar and Winterscales loop) 11 miles.
Day 5 - 3 Peaks Day -Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent 24 miles
Day 6 - Horton to Settle (bypassing Pen-y-ghent) 9 miles
